About the floor
About the Floor is a musical theater piece about the period when you are in your late twenties and your friends are your family. At that age, many groups of friends fan out and friendships break down, because day-to-day life can suddenly differ greatly at that age. In 'About the Floor', the friendship between Joos and Tess, two people in their late twenties, comes under pressure when Joos makes a career within a prestigious company and Tess continues her bohemian life as a creative jack-of-all-trades. Together they try to lay a laminate floor, but because Joos has no more free time and Tess cannot do anything alone, the floor is never finished. While their friendship was first self-evident as click laminate laid, the planks no longer seem to connect. 'About the Floor' is a farewell to the period when time seems endless and you spend the vast majority of your lives together as friends because there are no full-time jobs or busy family life yet.
About the Floor was performed in the Tropentheater Amsterdam, under production house Debut Amsterdam. This performance was part of the event 1+1 (created by Lou).
The tickets were sold per pair, per set of friends. Afterwards a philosophical discussion about friendship took place, with host Casper Vuurmans and the audience consisting of couples of friends (ranging between seventeen and eighty years old)
REVIEW
The humorous set-up is surprisingly interspersed with songs and palpable melancholy. Lou Kranen wrote three songs that show so much talent for melody and lyrics that she doesn't really need the opening song by Toon Hermans.' - Kees Hogenbirk art critic (about About the Floor)

Always
Where are our ways in which we let wooden slats fall into each other
Making puzzle floors
The wood that would slowly wear out under our joint passes
Now the days are too short to celebrate
Something has to be done
I understand that too
But can't we just for tonight
Let it happen for once
Leave it for what it is?
The sky will surround us
Waiting for dawn without reason
Breathe together and know that we will always find each other
Always always always always always always always where are our ways?
Of feeling the world at our feet
That we cycled the streets overly confident
So that the asphalt would slowly wear out
Among our joint tours.
Now the days are too short to celebrate
Something has to be done
I understand that too
But can't we just for tonight
Let it happen for once
Leave it for what it is?
The sky will surround us
Waiting for it to crack for no reason
Breathe together and know that we will always find each other
Always always always always always always always where are our ways?
